What to do during a rain delay.

Shall We Dance?

By now, we are all more than ready for this wedding and, actually, all of the pujas and blessing have been done and we're ready to go....when we hear it. Thunder, then rain, heavy rain, a 'sky opening up and pouring Niagara on us' rain. This is not a good thing. This is an outside wedding. Frantic calls are made to the Father of the Bride. Everything is on hold while he looks into renting a last minute hall for the wedding. On and off the rain continues and when it does rain it is of a deluge variety. So, what do you do at an Indian wedding when you have a rain delay? You dance!

My niece again eggs me on
..........but this time we don't dance alone.
And while we danced, the Father of the Bride diligently searched Chandagar, along with the Fathers of the Brides of ...are you ready... 16,000 other brides, for inside accommodations.

Dec. 10 was an auspicious day for weddings. So most wedding were scheduled then. It could have been worse. In New Delhi, where we boarded the train to Chandagar that morning, there were 39,000 weddings scheduled.

And so we danced until...blessedly...the rain stopped.

Amazingly, the caterers had the whole place cleaned up and ready to go and three hours after it was scheduled we finally went to the wedding.
